Yum Seng (English: cheers!) is a Cantonese bar located in the Kabuki district of northern Night City.

Overview[]

Yum Seng was a host and hostess establishment which was also famous for its excellent seafood meals. This was due to the owner, Alan Lam, who was a gourmand for that kind of cuisine.[1] The front of the bar was a riot of light and color, with barkers on the street wearing luminous clothing and calling out to passers-by to go inside for a good time. A large holotank mounted above the entrance door showed hyper-real images of tuna, salmon, eels, octopi, and shrimp, all life-sized or bigger; they swam alluringly, hinting at the high-end seafood served inside. More screens with similar images were located within the establishment.[2]

Once inside, customers were asked to choose their seating by the host at the entrance. Those who just wanted to eat were escorted to tables in the communal eating hall, while clients who wanted a more personal treatment were escorted to booths. The latter were attended to by extremely beautiful staff. Yum Seng's seafood was considered one of the best and freshest in Night City, while the drinks were of high quality. The host and hostess were all beautifully and elegantly bodysculpted, as well as trained in manners and etiquette.

Yum Seng included soundproof karaoke boxes simply because the owner loved it. Any mercenary with the intention of doing business with Lam had to participate in one of his sessions, not because he expected them to sing good, but because he wanted to see them having the courage to try it.

Alan Lam built a small empire of vice in Night City with the money of his grandfather's inheritance, including Yum Seng. He used the money wisely and was smart enough to not use the bar as a money laundering front, instead employing his other less lawful businesses for that reason. Yum Seng was simply Lam's personal hangout, taking great interest in the comfort and satisfaction of his customers. Alan tended to stop at their tables or booths to ask if all was well, and was very responsive to their concerns. He occasionally poured them a drink for free too.[1]

Known Drinks[]

All expensive and showy beverages in Yum Seng cost at least 150% of the standard price. The only exception was when the owner visited the client's table, then he comped them the drink after asking if they were having a good time.[1]

  • Veuve Clicquot: This was one of Yum Seng's signature drinks during the 2040s, costing 150% more eb per glass than your average drink. It was an expensive 18-year Scotch whisky.[1]
