Spoilers from Tales of the RED: Hope Reborn ahead!

Xanadu is located in Woodland Park, in the Heywood suburb of Night City.

History[]

Early history[]

This building used to be a courier-shipping depot before it was bought by Calliope at some point during the Time of the Red, who turned it into the base of operations for her posergang, the Muses. They remade the facility to house Xanadu, a combination of a roller rink and disco tech club. Ever since, Xanadu acted as their headquarters and training grounds for their roller derby team, as well gaining popularity as a nightclub. Calliope intended to keep on going with this life as long as Xanadu remained somewhat profitable and the Piranhas didn't discover that the money she used to buy the building was stolen from them.

In 2040, a fatidic incident occurred in the Watson Whammers' arena in northern Night City, where Trauma Team smashed through the building's roof and opened fire against their roller derby opponents. That event scared the Muses enough to make a rule for not allowing active TT membership within Xanadu during games.[1][2]

2045[]

By 2045, Xanadu was well known for the parties and other events celebrated in the club. During roller derby season, the Muses hosted regular bouts, taking on one of a dozen or so other semi-pro squads in the Night City Wonderland League while participating under the name of Woodland Park Muses. The team, however, eventually lost the competition that year.[3][1]

Layout[]

Located in Woodland Park, Xanadu is a two-story building covered up in neon-bright graffiti. A large empty lot is located south of it.

During party nights, the doors are guarded by bouncers. Over the entrance area there is a counter with lockers where visitors are asked to leave their weapons. Here the Muses offer skates for anyone that doesn't have one. Inside the proper club, the ground floor has been converted into a roller rink, complete with seating. People is free to skate and dance, and the DJ's booth is located right in the middle. On the backside of the room, beneath a walkway, a bar offers many types of beverages. Brawls are not uncommon, and the club security won't interfere as long as they are short and non-lethal.

The upper floor is divided between a large walkway that wraps around the building with open space in the center to allow viewing of the rink below. With enough money, any visitors can pick up the best seats found here. Calliope, the Muse leader, also MCs the games from this vantage point. Attached to this walkaway are offices and communal living spaces for the Muses.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Xanadu can refer to a metaphor that means idyllic place.
