Upper Eastside was a district of Central Night City, located to the northeast. It was considered part of the Nightlife District.

History[]

1990s - 2010s[]

Upper Eastside's architecture, similar to the nearby Little Italy to the west, was constructed to reflect the faux East Coast neighborhoods styles, encompassing elements of Boston, Philadelphia, and New York City.[2] Thanks to its close proximity to the City Center and the original NCPD Headquarters, this district was a safe neighborhood, catering to many upper-class residents by being one of the business and commercial sections of the Night City. Lots of people thought the presence of rich corporations in its vicinity would keep the streets in showcase style. There were also NCTC bus connections to other parts of Central & South Night City, which were available through lines 17, 22, 68 and 72. NCART connections with the metropolitan area were available as well.

Over the following years, however, the convenient central location of Upper Eastside attracted many unsavory businesses. Slowly, establishments offering their wares to boostergangs and such like the Slammer or Metalstrom started to become a common sight. At first, these businesses were essentially just nighttime concerns, and for this reason the problem was ignored by the corporates, who had long since commuted to their suburban residences. But over time, similar places like Metal Haven or Kitty Liquor followed this trend, until one day people realized that gangs and other criminals were walking down the streets of Upper Eastside, shouting drinking, and generally spoiling their launch time.

By the late 2010s, the district's atmosphere had gotten harsher, and any visitors were threated by either the violent gangers found throughout Upper Eastside, or the soft corporates who wanted anyone that were not themselves gone. This state was seemingly going to continue, as boosters were adamant to stay, and the corporates wanted them out. This two very different sides prompted a war against urban decay in the district.[1]

2020s[]

By 2020, Upper Eastside was still in decline. The NCPD didn't patrol much of the district, but ever since the Back Alley Brawlers decided to protect the neighborhood, things were not as bad. It was well known for that the Brawlers dealt out street justice to those who broke the local code of conduct, which they had posted around the worse parts of the district. Even locals reported any crimes to them rather than the police. Most gangs around the district avoided the Brawlers, hoping someone else would take them out, but for the time being no one had been able to do the job. Corporate security also patrolled some areas of the district, though the gangs were not stupid enough to always be fighting among themselves, as that usually draw the trigger happy corporates. In their point of view, if they were going to mess with them, they may do it by bashing on some of the upper-class residents.

The Night City Council was hesitant to force the closure of illegal establishments like the Kitty Liquor, as this would provoke mass riots from the local gangs who visited these places, and the government authorities didn't want Upper Eastside to go up in smoke; they still had vague hopes of cleaning it up.[1]

After the Fourth Corporate War, Upper Eastside would eventually be incorporated into the new Upper Marina.
