This article is about the location in 2020. For the one in 2045 , see University District (RED).

The University District[1] was one of the neighborhood districts of Central Night City, located to the southwest. It would continue to exist during the Time of the Red.

Overview[]

Keeping with Richard Night's vision, Coronado City (later Night City) was divided into a number of neighborhoods, each with a different architectural style and theme, similar to the original Disneyland park. He was hoping to bring in a vibrant and varied culture that was attracted to each of the neighborhoods. Unfortunately, his dead left all these plans incomplete, with the city being disintegrated into a hodgepodge of competing districts, dangerous gangs, and megacorporations.[2]

University District was primarily set aside as a comfortable living space, with architecture ranging from faux brownstones to pseudo-Victorian gingerbread homes, interspersed with plenty of small shops, restaurants, and businesses within easy walking distance.[2] The district was divided into two sections; the western side housed the academic fortress of Night City University, as well as many student apartments and businesses catering to them; the eastern side was mostly occupied by a large section of Lake Park, though there were some businesses and service buildings on the southern blocks.[1]

This district, located on the opposite of the City & Corporate District to the northeast, was built to balance the thriving corporate sector, both acting as Night City's yin-yang of commerce and higher learning. During the warm days, the park was full of residents and students enjoying the sun. Unfortunately, these areas attracted the attention of many gangs, being the Voodoo Boys and the Blood Razors some of the most prominent and dangerous. The NCU Campus Police and the Voodoo Boys were known to clash on almost any occasion they saw each other.

Both the park and the rest of University District were ideal places for bike touring, though it was advised to carry light clothes and weapons in case of encountering one of the many gangs inhabiting the area.

NCTC bus connections to other parts of Central & South Night City were available through lines 51, 68 and 72. NCART connections with the metropolitan area were available as well.[1]
