Look out, choom! Spoilers from Tales of the RED: Hope Reborn ahead!

The Shark is an apartment complex located in Woodland Park, in the New Westbrook suburb of Night City.

History[]

2010s - 2040s[]

This building was constructed at some point during the 2010s, including a massive neon sign on the rooftop. After the Fourth Corporate War, people forgot its original purpose nor what the shark sign advertised, and the last time someone tried to unplug it, it blew the circuits of half of the apartments. As such, it was decided to just let it be.

By the 2040s, the sign had become a notorious fixture of the building, which was already simply called the Shark by the locals. The apartment complex and the neighboring Choom Goes Vroom were owned by a local fixer known as Billy Flight. He took the rent, maintained the building functional, and quietly ensured it stayed out of trouble as well.[1]

2045[]

By 2045, the Shark was the oldest still standing building in Woodland Park. The last floor was completely rented by the Pearces, a guerrilla gardening collective who also grew crops on the rooftop. Their successful small business infuriated Continental Brands, who were planning to open an Oasis store in the neighborhood. For this reason the corp hired a mercenary group called the Lucky Charms to "economically realign" the family's garden. The mercs, thinking the Pearces would not be a problem, headed straight to the apartment, only to be kicked out by the heavily armed family of gardeners. The Charms managed to grab a few hostages and retreated downstairs. However, along the way they encountered more Pearces who were returning to their home. Pinned on the fourth floor, neither group was willing to advance; the Lucky Charms feared they would not get out alive, and the Pearces didn't want to hurt their hostage family members. Moreover, no residents in the building were willing to call the NCPD over an illegal assault on an illegal garden. Such a mess caused Billy to hire a group of mercs to solve the situation, ideally with the hostages surviving. The mercs accomplished the objective in one way or another.[1]

Layout[]

The Shark is a five-story building with studio and two-bedroom apartments located on each floor. Two internal staircases on either side of the building and an elevator (whose shaft includes an emergency ladder) connect all stories. The building has three central light wells as well; covered by bulletproof frosted glass, they were designed to fill the hallways with natural light. The building's windows are protected by security bars.

The rooftop is dominated by garden boxes and greenhouses in which the the Pearces grow their crops. Located in this area as well are the light wells roofs made of glass, and a massive neon sign with a shark wearing a trilby, tipping it with the flickering routine.

A NET Architecture connects the whole building, controlling the cameras, electricals, and the elevator.[1]
