Tanaka is a minor antagonist that appears in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Appearance[]

Tanaka appeared to be a middle-aged man moderately chromed up for his job as a Corpo. He had black hair parted in a 7:3 ratio, a style typical for office workers, as well as narrowed, stern eyes framed by a pair of sleek, translucent black eyeglasses. He had visible emp threading which consists of rectangle-shaped nodes in select parts of his wrinkle-lined face.

As he works for Arasaka, Tanaka wore a professional outfit befitting of a Corpo.

Tanaka was a high-ranking executive on the Arasaka Academy board and was the father of Katsuo.[1]

After Katsuo and David had their second fight, a recording of it was shown to Tanaka. At first, he was not interested in the matter, but realized an opportunity for the company after seeing David's capabilities to handle the military-grade Sandevistan implant. He conceived the plan to lure David back to the academy, so Arasaka could test a not further described piece of cyberware on David.[1]

Tanaka became a target himself, when fixer Faraday demanded Tanaka's navigation data, and the group around Maine started a data heist from Tanaka's driver, Maxim Kuznetsov. The crew managed to succeed, even though the heist did not go as planned.[2]

Maine's crew found out about Tanaka's secret delight of watching raw XBDs created by the master editor Jimmy Kurosaki, and lured him into a trap. He tried to defend himself, but accidentally killed Kurosaki, and was captured by Maine's crew, but not before he recognized David.[3]

Tanaka was taken as a prisoner by Maine's crew and brought to a secret location to extract his data. The group first put Kiwi on the job, but Maine, who was slowly slipping into cyberpsychosis, incapacitated her by hitting her in the face and dislodging her facial cyberware. As a result, Lucy was forced to take over. However, Tanaka regained consciousness and spotted David standing guard. Addressing his captor by name caused him pause before he could sedate Tanaka, who revealed his role in revoking his expulsion. He then tried to negotiate his release, relaying his suspicions that Militech was sponsoring Maine's crew. As Maine and Dorio came in, Lucy found Tanaka's data and discovered he was plotting to use David as a lab rat for Arasaka's cyberskeleton, forcing her to fry his cyberware to tie up loose ends, though his captors managed to resuscitate him. The resulting flatline fried the jammer keeping Trauma Team from locating Tanaka, who was then strapped to Maine's chest as he and Dorio fought against Trauma Team and NCPD. Following Dorio's death, Tanaka was brutally decapitated by Maine in his cyberpsychotic rage and his body was then used to kill an NCPD officer.[4][5]
