Disambig This article is about the bar in Cyberpunk RED. For other uses, see Short Circuit (disambiguation).

Short Circuit is a bar located in the Little Europe district of central Night City.

History[]

Short Circuit used to be a notable bar located on the top of the Barbican Building in the 2020s. During the Night City Holocaust, the bar was severely damaged and subsequently abandoned. In 2040, Brain and 3-Piece built a new establishment in Little Europe, naming it after the original bar as an homage. Since its founding, 3-Piece used a portion of the third floor as a Night Market, where he sold many unique tinkers once every month. After years doing this, he had become quite adept at selling the salvaged items his husband carefully repaired.[1]

At some point, a netrunner by the name of S.A.N.T.A. began uploading classified corporation data unto The Library, Short Circuit's NET Architecture designed to share information between the patrons. He appeared to do this every December 24th.[2]

By 2045, Short Circuit, similar to its original counterpart, had become a favorite haunt for techies and netrunners. It was common to see patrons tinker with wrecked tech from around Night City — even from the Hot Zone — in its various booths.[3] The bar's owners encouraged this and even provided the tools necessary to turn salvaged trash into treasure.[4][5] To prevent patrons from hauling anything too dangerous into the bar, Zhirafa drones kept watch at the entrance.[3]

Layout[]

Short Circuit is a reinforced three-story building located in Little Europe, very close to the Hot Zone. It has a sizable elevator installed on the exterior wall that goes to all floors, and it is rigged with sleeping gas in case someone sneaks into it. The building is secured by a number of patrolling Zhirafa drones operated by netrunners on a payroll. Additional security includes cameras and biometrical locks.

The first floor is where Brain and the rest of the staff serve drinks to the many techies working on their projects. The second floor is usually occupied by netrunners sitting in comfortable chairs and using a set of custom NET Architectures designed to act as virtual clubs. The third floor is a private family apartment which also contains Brain's workshop, 3-Piece's recording studio, and the storage space that 3-Piece uses as his Night Market joint.[1]

3-Piece's Joint[]

This Night Market is randomly set up every month by 3-Piece. Although it doesn't have many items for sell, the few ones there have been carefully repaired by Brain, and are sometimes even better than the originals. 3-Piece doesn't allow other fixers to sell their merch here, but is open for commissions if his husband, Brain, or daughter, Bug, ask for it. The room is rigged with strategically placed stun panels for security reasons.

Not everyone is allowed in this place. You first need to be a Short Circuit customer for a while, and once Brain or 3-Piece get to know you or someone they trust vouches for you, 3-Piece may invite you in. The final step, though, is 3-Piece's daughter. For some reason, Bug is very good at spotting undercover police officers, corpos, or turncoats. For that reason, anyone she doesn't trust won't get a pass.

Items sold here include tech parts, cyberdecks, hardware, programs and any related items, most of these of high quality.[1]

Staff[]

  • Brain (co-owner, barkeeper)
  • 3-Piece (co-owner)
  • Bug (occasional helper)
  • Other unnamed staff[1]
