This article is about the bar in Cyberpunk 2020. For other uses, see Short Circuit (disambiguation).

Short Circuit was a bar located in the Medical Center district of Central Night City.

Overview[]

In 2020, Short Circuit was located on the top floor of the Barbican Building, above of the offices of Argus. This bar catered mostly to netrunners and techies, and it was very usefully for people looking for help in those areas. Street-smart bouncers made sure no one exceeded the dress code, in other words, corporates were not well received in the bar.

Short Circuit included booths with interface jacks that allowed netrunners to connect to a part of Net where the bar was represented, which they used to socialize and exchange news and services. The bar also included a rotating floor, allowing customers to see the panoramic view of the city below. Normal booths served as a meeting point for many netrunners that wanted to interact outside of cyberspace.[1]

In the early 2010s, Livewire — one of the most renowned netrunners in the world — had a small shop located in a backroom of the Short Circuit bar. Not many people knew he was there, so he was able to work in peace. He used that small establishment to buy and sell netrunning programs, and if anyone needed something more specific, he was glad to craft it for a price. Over the following years, his small shop became a notable software manufacturer known as Argus, allowing Livewire to buy the rest of the Barbican Building and establishing the headquarters of his corporation there. Short Circuit continued to function, though Livewire forbid the company from recruiting anyone from there, as he had trust issues with corporations or people related to them, including his own corp. He wanted the bar to be kept out of any corporate business.[2]

During the Night City Holocaust of 2023, the bar was severely damaged and was subsequently abandoned. In 2040, a new establishment in Little Europe was named after Short Circuit as an homage.[3]
