A robot is a machine that is capable of autonomously completing tasks. Depending upon the robot, these tasks may be simple or complex and may require little human intervention or complete oversight. The area of robotics deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots.
Overview[]
In the Cyberpunk universe, robots had been constructed for many purposes, and continue to serve these purposes, or become modified for new ones, as late as 2077.
Robots had been constructed to fill all niches and occupations. From general-purpose utility droids to full-fledged military battle machines, robots could be found in almost any environment and function.
Background[]
In 2013 and 2020, robots were common sights, being produced largely by corporations like Adrek Robotics. Such models included patrol units, "Bots", and Cyberforms. Robots were widely utilized in the Fourth Corporate War, clashing against infantry and remote operatives.[1] As a result of the War, Adrek Robotics went bankrupt. However, their place in the robotics industry was later succeeded by Zhirafa, introducing new autonomous robotics, specifically drones and robots, back into the world. By 2045, Zhirafa robots are seen worldwide in security and law enforcement roles.[1] In the world of 2077 society has become highly dependent on drones and robotics — from live-feed camera drones, to sparring bots and massive warehouse machinery. Huge, automated trash collectors and robotic street sweepers can be seen any day through your window (if you're lucky enough to have one).
Whether top-of-the-line or pieced together from scrap, robotics serve a huge role in both the economic sector and everyday life. In fact, most public transportation services are handled by automated vehicles. These trains and buses are practically entities in their own right — able to communicate with each other and learn in order to improve efficiency.
