The Red Oktober is a bar located in the Watson Development district of northern Night City.
Overview[]
The Red Oktober was a Soviet-themed bar and restaurant built inside a defunct subway station in the Watson Development. It was established by Tank after inheriting four Greenbox Storage Units full of cold war era Soviet propaganda posters and kitsch from his late granduncle Ollie, who had been a political science professor at Night City University. It was from this inheritance that he ended up getting the idea to start a Soviet themed restaurant after being inspired by an old novel about a nuclear submarine that went rogue.
The Red Oktober was done up to look like the interior of a Soviet bomb shelter, with the walls covered up in Soviet propaganda posters, and the jukebox only playing patriotic Russian songs that had been recorded by the Red Army Choir. All staff wore replicas of Soviet military uniforms and spoke with varying Russian accents. Much of the kitchen workers were former employees of a local Russian restaurant that had to close, but who Tank managed to poach before they left the city. This combination of atmosphere and experienced personnel gave the Red Oktober a reputation of serving the best Russian cuisine in all of Night City. It also attracted Red Army posergangers, real Cold War veterans, and Soviet immigrants alike.[1]
