The Red Door Inn was located in the Little China district of Central Night City.
Overview[]
This one-star hotel located at the edge of Little China was one of many cubicle hotels owned and operated by the Red Door Inn hotel chain. For a very small amount of money (12eb/day plus water charge) anyone could rent a room cubicle. These modular plastic cubicles were 1.5m wide, 3m deep, 2.5m high, and came in four pastel colors. They were equipped with a small bed that folded up into a molded recess, a very small sink, and a security wall locker. Disposable linens and ice were available as well as a selection of food and beverages from vending machines on every floor. These efficient, affordable, clean security cubicles were the cutting edge of modern, low maintenance accommodations.
As you walked into the lobby, you could check the availability of a room on the automated vacancy board. Rooms were color coded by decor and numbered. Rooms coded in black were either out of order or occupied. After pressing your selection, paying for the room by either magnetic credcard or inserting cash, then you could proceed to your cubicle. Then you had three minutes to confirm your selection by entering your thumbprint on the identipad lock on your cubicle's door. The elevator's CPU was not always cooperative when taking someone to his correct floor. This was nothing really serious, but confirming your occupancy could get a little hectic.[1]
