The Rebuilding Urban Center were neighborhood zones of Night City that escaped the worst of both the Fourth Corporate War and the AHQ Disaster. In these areas, cranes and construction gear were everywhere, building new corporate towers and crowded urban megabuildings.[1]
Overview[]
Not all of Night City was obliterated in the holocaust. Already heavily built up with skyscrapers and densely packed urban constructions, a considerable amount of the original urban center survived. But the detonation and subsequent destruction damaged the seawalls and breakwaters that kept the bay and the outer Pacific Ocean from overwhelming the fill in which the majority of the Central City stood on. Periodic flooding became a regular occurrence, and power and water were chancy at best. The NCART subway still worked though, when it wasn't flooded by the tide. City planners were planning to raise the majority of the track into a new monorail configuration, but at the time it would have taken time and money the city couldn't afford.
In the Rebuilding Center, cranes and construction gear were everywhere. The looming skeletons of new corporate towers were rising from the ruins of the Old City, patrolled by vigilant private armies and mechanical sentry drones. The work never stopped, and the City Center was always alight with the slam of heavy machines and brilliant with construction arc lights. Chief among these new structures were the rising megabuildings of the Watson Urban Reconstruction Zone; all-in-one mini-arcologies designed to house the millions of people who were forced to leave their homes when the nuke went off.
The City Council considered the Rebuilding Center to have a threat level of "Corporate/Moderate", which meant that the richest areas were usually patrolled by corporate security, while the not so wealthy lived in relative peace. At least when the dangers of the Combat Zones didn't leak out.[1]
