— 911 Turbo (930), Cyberpunk 2077
The 911 Turbo (930) is a vehicle manufactured by Porsche.
Overview[]
Originally intended to meet homologation requirements for Group 4, the 911 Turbo was Porsche's first turbocharged 911, featuring wider fenders and its signature "whale tail" design to aid engine cooling that differentiates it from standard 911s of the era.
By 2077, only a handful were left in the world, and each one of them was worth its weight in gold.[1]
History[]
The Porsche 911 Turbo is the signature customized vehicle of legendary rockerboy Johnny Silverhand, lead singer of Samurai.[2] This specific Porsche was manufactured in 1977. When Johnny got his hands on it many years later, he tuned the vehicle and customized it to represent his own tastes.[3][4]
In the following years, Johnny would cruise through Night City with it.[4] It was also the car Johnny drove while dating Rogue Amendiares when they were younger.[5]
After Johnny's death in 2023, a former pararescue firefighter known as Samantha Stevens recovered Silverhand's car. She kept it hidden in her garage for more than a decade, preserving the vehicle in its pristine state by keeping it in cold storage. Unfortunately, Samantha died of cancer at some point after the events of Black Dog. This was due to her having accessed the Hot Zone shortly after the nuke went off.[6][7]
At some point later, Adam Smasher acquired the rockerboy's possessions from Samantha's place, including the car, which ended locked up inside a cargo container on the Ebunike Docks of Night City.[2] Aymeric Cassel, a classic car collector enthusiast, visited Night City in 2077 after Jeremiah Grayson — Smasher's right hand — offered the Porsche to him.[8] Unfortunately for Aymeric, it was around that time when V and Rogue assaulted the docks to find information about Smasher, but instead they ended up finding Grayson. He had the keys to the car, and after obtaining them, V opened the container and got their hands on the 911 Turbo, to the surprise and enjoyment of Johnny's engram.[2] Rogue was also surprised to see the car if V managed to convince her to have a date with Johnny.[5]
Database Entry[]
PORSCHE 911 TURBO (930)
An all-time classic and king among 1% wannabes - the Porsche 911 Turbo (930) is one of the most iconic cars in automotive history. Not many are left in the world, but the ones that remain are each worth their weight in gold. Its sleek, compact appearance is unmistakable - who wouldn't want one? Sadly, none could ever hope to look as cool behind the wheel as Johnny Silverhand.[9]
Acquisition[]
The 911 Turbo can be obtained during the Chippin' In quest, right after the fight against Jeremiah Grayson. You can either spare him so he gives you the keys to the car, or take them from his body if you decide to kill him. Afterwards, go to the ladder on the starboard of the ship and activate the button you'll find up there. One of the containers will be lifted down. Just go there, open the container doors and take the car.
Development[]
An unpublished story by Mike Pondsmith called "The Punk and the Parking Space" serves as a backstory to the car and its first appearance in the Never Fade Away adventure. The car was originally owned by Toshiro Harada, an Arasaka executive who Johnny had a dispute over a parking spot. In the end, Johnny shot out the tires of the executive's car. A few years afterwards, Johnny stole that same car, eventually deciding to keep it. Due to Toshiro being the one who captured Alt Cunningham, it ended up as being something personal for Johnny.[7]
Before choosing the Porsche, Mike had considered the Sunbeam Tiger. He had owned four of them and was familiar with the vehicle. Ultimately though, Pondsmith decided not to do so after theorizing the car was not very recognizable by the 1980s.[10]
Design[]
The developers of CD Projekt RED worked alongside with Porsche to accurately recreate the car in Cyberpunk 2077 as well as the changes made to fit the in-game world. The changes from the real-world model include LiDAR for self-driving capabilities, cameras instead of mirrors, self-changing transmission, various drive modes (almost directly lifted from current-day Porsche models), and the ability to run on biofuel.
Porsche themselves also made a one-off real-world recreation of the car that was on display at the Porsche Museum from October 15 to 22, 2020; while it did not feature any of the futuristic changes, it does have the livery that dons Silverhand's car in the game.[11][12]
Notes[]
- Being manufactured in 1977, Silverhand's Porsche is 100 years old by the time the game is set, making it the oldest car in the game.
- Despite having four seats, the rear ones are inaccessible.
- In-game, its front wheels have a wider track width compared to the rear, going past the fenders. However, this is not true in pre-release screenshots and in its database photo.
- Alongside the cabriolet version, these are the only real-world automobiles included in Cyberpunk 2077.
- Prior to Patch 2.1 it was called Porsche 911 II (930) Turbo.
Trivia[]
- As depicted in the name, Johnny's Porsche is indented to be a 930, a variant of the 911.
- On the passenger side of the dashboard, there is a metal plaque that bears the signature of Jakub Przybolewski, the Senior Vehicle Artist at CD Projekt RED.
- In 2022, CD Projekt RED collaborated with Hot Wheels to manufacture a scale model car of the Porsche 911.[13]
- In Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto Online, a livery that bears a resemblance to the 911 Turbo — named "Rock N' Roll Legends" — is available for the Pfister Comet S2 (based on the Porsche 992) and its Cabrio variant.

There's even a backstory to this-- an unpublished Johnny story called The Punk and the Parking Space, where Johnny gets in the face of an Arasaka exec over a parking space (in the end, Johnny shoots out the tires on the exec's car--which as it happens, was a classic 911 Porsche). A few years later, Johnny steals that same Porsche and starts driving it--which is why it shows up in NFA. The Arasaka Exec? Toshiro Harada, the guy who captured Alt. So yeah, it was personal. BANG. By the way---the Porsche was kept in cold storage for years by Samantha, the full body firefighter and Silverhand fangirl. Which is why it's still around in 2077."

Lucky for me Keanu and I share similar tastes in cars; It's a cute looking car with a freaking HUGE engine. I had to put 500lbs of sand in the trunk to keep it from skidding out when I dropped the hammer."
