Phantom Liberty is an expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. It was announced on September 6 2022, and released on September 26, 2023.[1]
Pre-Release Description[]
Phantom Liberty is a new forthcoming addition to Cyberpunk 2077. It will feature a spy-thriller story set in a whole new area of Night City. As V, take on an impossible mission of espionage and survival. With new skills, new weapons and new tech, plunge deep into a web of broken loyalties and political power plays.
Coming some time in 2023, it will be available to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.[2][3]
Plot[]
V gets involved in the conflicts of Dogtown, which will somehow lead them to pledge allegiance to the New United States of America. In order to complete their mission, they will partner with FIA agent Solomon Reed.[4]

- Prior to its shutdown announcement, Google Stadia was one of the platforms slated for Phantom Liberty.[2]
- Work on Phantom Liberty began with discussions of what's next for Cyberpunk 2077, about a month prior to the game's release.
- As of October 3rd, 2023, Phantom Liberty has sold over 3 million copies.[6]
- As of November 27, 2024, Phantom Liberty has sold over 8 million copies.[7]
Trivia[]
- The events of Phantom Liberty are heavily inspired by the Escape from New York movie by director and writer John Carpenter.
- Other inspirations include the book Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, and the film Apocalypse Now by Francis Coppola, which is loosely based on the book.[8] In the final act of the game, while riding an elevator down to the final area, Johnny states, "We're heading down the Heart of Darkness", likely in reference to the book.
