General Eddington started his military career in college, going into the Army as an ROTC grad. He switched over to intelligence analysis in the CIA for a time, but left that agency after he blew the whistle on a cover-up concerning chemical warfare during the Gulf War.
His military career took off again when the Collapse came. Eddington joined a unit out of Fort Leonard Wood, moving up through the ranks until he was in charge of one of the Midwest divisions. His competence would have landed him the post of military governor, but he refused, saying that he'd had a lifetime of power politics in the CIA, and would rather remain in the still political but less complex world of the military lifestyle.
