The Night City Wonderland League is a professional roller derby league active in Night City during the Time of the Red.
History[]
The Night City Wonderland League was founded in 2040 by Bastion Norton, a food truck entrepreneur, after stumbling upon photos of his mother playing roller derby for the Coronado Nightcrawlers team; like most sports teams in the city, the Nightcrawlers had been disbanded after the Fourth Corporate War.
Norton, through a combination of rallying and blackmail, was able to form the Watson Whammers and South Night City Alices and set up a track in an underground parking garage. The game proved a quick success when Fixers realised they could expand their gambling operations with it. The Alice's disbanded as a team and became the governing board, giving communities the training they needed to found their own teams. As of 2045, the Wonderland League recognises 12 official teams.[1]
Teams[]
Aldecaldo Warriors[]
A team composed entirely of Nomads, though not all of them Aldecaldos. Their lineup is constantly changing, meaning they're rarely that high in the league charts. They're known for celebrating every bout with a wild tailgate party based out of Woodchipper's Garage.
Biotechnica Biohazards[]
A team of employees from the local Biotechnica branch office. Because Biotechnica sponsors the team, they can afford to use McCartney Stadium as a training field, though always play away games as the stadium's always booked out.
Combat Zone Cannons[]
A team of Old Combat Zone youth founded by Brick Coleman, the Solo whom owns Jesse James' Kosher Deli. Colman sees it as an opportunity to sway kids away from gang membership while still helping them learn the things they need to survive in a Combat Zone.
Dockside Billhooks[]
A team of dock workers from Upper Marina and the Heywood Industrial Zone whom train in an old container yard. They sell homebrewed intoxicants, partake in gambling, and are known for violence on and off track.
Executive Zone Unicorns[]
A team of rich kids from the Executive Zone. They have all the expensive gear, but spend very little time actually practicing. They are reviled by the other teams due to an incident where Lazarus troops killed members of the Industrial Zone Skidz just trying to enter the Exective Zone for a game.
Industrial Zone Skidz[]
A team of cyclists from Fixie's bike courier network. They are known for their utter fearlessness and good teamwork.
NCU Motorboards[]
A team of Night City University grad students and professors known for following the rules to the letter and forcing other teams to do the same. They have a bitter rivalry with the Biotechnica Biohazards.
Pacifica Sea Shells[]
A team of Playland by the Sea employees. Despite their demanding 12-hour shifts, they use their free time training themselves to perfection and regularly place in the top three.
Rancho Coronado Roosters[]
A team from the tent cities of Rancho Coronado. They’re incredibly scrappy players with wild enthusiasm and a dedicated fanbase, who paint their faces white and put up their hair into orange mohawks to mimic the team logo.
Trauma Team Tower Sirens[]
A team of Trauma Team employees with a changing lineup based on shift patterns. They play for fun and to encourage cooperation. Their medical skills are much appreciated after a match.
Watson Whammers[]
One of the founding teams of the league, the Watson Whammers have won the championship twice, but most commonly act as ambassadors for the sport and play friendly non-league games against smaller teams. Their sponsorships mean its members are more well off than other teams.
Woodland Park Muses[]
The Woodland Park Muses are based out of Woodland Park, a neighborhood on the border between New Westbrook and North Heywood.
Former Teams[]
Coronado Nightcrawlers[]
A defunct team.
South Night City Alices[]
A disbanded team.
