The Night City Corsairs, formerly known as the Sacramento Corsairs, are a professional football team based in Night City.
History[]
After the Nighthawks were disbanded at some point during the 2060s, the Night City Council tried a different approach and instead bought an already existing team — the Sacramento Corsairs. The owners of the Corsairs were tempted by the promise of unprecedented tax exceptions and agreed to relocate the football team from Sacramento to Night City. Albeit, this only happened in paper as the Corsairs soon-to-be home — the EBM Petrochem Stadium — became engulfed in the combat zone of Dogtown. As such, the Corsairs kept playing in Sacramento. This caused many Night Citizens to not think of them as their local team.[1]
During the 2070s, the NC Corsairs' official fanpage (which had been created in July 15 of 2069) petitioned the Night City administration to reclaim the EBM Petrochem Stadium for the Corsairs as they did were displeased of having to go to Sacramento to see their local team play.[2]
In 2077, Night Corp sponsored the Corsairs with exclusive equipment developed by Night Corp's Football Science Lab, which included top-tier cyberware. That same year, the Corsairs won against the San Diego Shredders in a local match with a final score of 30-13. Nine players were injured and seven had to be carried off the stadium by Trauma Team. The Shredders accused the Corsairs of using military-grade cyberware, which they refuted, stating there were no rules on how advanced the tech could be, and urged their rivals to upgrade their cyberware as well.[3][4]

- The black, red and white uniform palette used by the Corsairs is reminiscent of the black and red colors used by the old Night City Rangers football team.
- The GLITTER boots were made popular by one of the Corsair players.
- The EBM Petrochem Stadium, which was originally designed to be the home of the Nighthawks, began to add symbols of the Corsairs around the public stands. This, however, was never finished as the stadium was abandoned.
