New Zealand is an island nation within the Oceania region. Due to its small size and lack of fundamental resources, the country has largely avoided the worldwide collapse and corruption of society.
History[]
In 2002, New Zealand was unaffected by the mass die-off of global wheat crops. They briefly began exporting their food, but stopped when some of its own citizens started to go hungry. The country decided to become self-sufficient and stopped importing and exporting food.
In 2007 they legalised marijuana to be used as textiles and fuel.
In 2009 the exiled government of Papua New Guinea were granted asylum in the country. The global charity organisation Amnesty International also moved their headquarters to New Zealand in 2014 after their offices in London were bombed.[1]
In 2077 despite being reasonably well off, organized crime cartels have been quick to take advantage of New Zealand's relatively peaceful state and lack of corporate interference.[citation needed]
Government[]
The government of New Zealand is unexpectedly caring towards its people. They're still technically under the United Kingdom, mostly for sentimental reasons and because they can’t be bothered to officially succeed.
New Zealand has a policy of helping extract "conscientious" scientists from under corporate control and bringing them to New Zealand, which allows the country to advance technologically without corporations. It’s miniaturised factories and computer-lathes are world-class.[1]
Culture[]
New Zealand may be the last semblance of pre-corporate culture in the world. It’s culture is similar to Australia's, but without as much American influence. On the whole, New Zealand is a country that cares about people, but is willing to fight when human rights and environmental laws are challenged.
Recently, though, there have been racial conflicts between native New Zealanders (both of white and Māori descent) and the influx of Polynesian and Chinese immigrants, a situation the Triads have used to their advantage.
New Zealand raises a lot of sheep, meaning its citizens eat real meat. The country’s also known for it's fish & chips.[1]
