This article is about the location in Cyberpunk RED. For other uses, see Westbrook (disambiguation).

New Westbrook was an overpacked suburb located northeast of central Night City during the Time of the Red.

History[]

2020s - 2030s[]

The area where New Westbrook stood was originally the suburban community of old Westbrook, plus portions of the cities of North Oak and Central Night City. Prior to the Fourth Corporate War, this region housed many of the wealthiest citizens of the greater Night City area; after the war, many refuges from around the metropolitan zone flooded the surrounding suburbs, constructing multitude of tent cities. The richest community in old Westbrook was the Executive Estates, which, due to the overcrowding of people seeking shelter, decided to construct the Executive Zone, a portion of the hills they walled-off from the rest of Westbrook.

Over the following years, New Westbrook became an urban sprawl built in the remains of the original one, still gleaming with glitz and glam, but packed with homeless citizens who either fled other areas of Night City because of the war or who were pushed out the ongoing gentrification of the Rebuilding Urban Center.[1]

2040s - 2060s[]

By the 2040s, New Westbrook was an overpacked suburb of central Night City, housing more refugees than any other of the neighboring areas. Despite this, ongoing development projects were still arranged, which included megabuildings to house the displaced population and plans to rebuild the NCART lines above ground and extend them to cover all the districts in the city.

By 2045, things had not changed much; high-income citizens still lived next to the tent cities, and much of the squalor of these camps surrounded the walled community of the Executive Zone. However, a high-security NCART monorail had already been built to form a loop between New Westbrook, the Executive Zone, Little Europe and the Watson Development.[1][2][3]

Over the following years, reconstruction in Night City begun to stabilize. It was then when the wealthy residents of the Executive Zone decided to expand what they considered their safe and secure paradise. After paying off the city officials to legitimize their expansion, they hired out hired mercenaries to remove the refugees around the district and reformed Westbrook in their own image.[2]
