The New American Maritime Shipyard was located in the South City district of Night City.
History[]
This shipyard was owned by New American Maritime Inc. (NAMI), a consortium of USA heavy industry companies that intended to wrest a piece of the shipbuilding market back from Japan and Korea. The consortium made a pact with the local Night City Mobs during the 2000s, building this shipyard in the South City District. The facilities were a wonder of automation and computer control, requiring only a handful of workers. Despite New American Maritime's best efforts, the shipyard was shut down and closed in 2011.
In 2015, after four years of low maintenance, the shipyard was officially abandoned. Much of the machinery was looted or sold for scrap, though there were some areas that still saw some work, though it wasn't owned by anyone. Despite its size and buildings, no local gangs were interested in controlling the area due to its remoteness and isolation, especially since it was cold, windy and damp. Over the years, some sections of the shipyard were flooded by the sea, washing a couple of feet deep over the floors of the pens. Due to its desolate location, it was a perfect place for clandestine meetings.
In 2020, a debacle about a Biotechnica clone known as Adriana was settled in this shipyard. An AI by the name of ELOISE had the possibility to help Adriana by controlling the computerized machinery to protect her friend. Arasaka, after discovering the betrayal of Seiji Okano, also joined the fight to help the clone.[1]
Layout[]
Located on the shores of San Morro Bay in Night City, this massive but abandoned shipyard and drydocks was designed as a marvel of automation and computer control, requiring only a handful of workers to function. Some of its pens could handle a number of tanker-sized vessels. Ever since the operations shut down, the facility housed plenty of sheltered areas and abandoned buildings that remained mostly unoccupied.
Along the yards there were a great deal of machinery, including old rail cars, giant cranes, huge hydraulic doors and lifts, and enormous pumps. Giant videoboards decorated the sides of the cranes, and despite not being used anymore, they once displayed images of NAMI supervisors exhorting their workers to greater efforts.[1]
