The Muses are a gang operating in Night City.

Overview[]

Based in the Woodland Park neighborhood of North Heywood, the Muses are a posergang that mix 1980s big-hair styles and legwarmers with ancient Grecian fashion sensibilities. Its members are bodysculpted for the wide-eyed, high cheekbone look, and favor high perms and mullets. They like to wear tight clothing and are expert skaters, often carrying oversized, shoulder-mounted radios blasting cheerful pop electronic music, which is well represented in Xanadu, their base of operations and home of their own roller rink. This last one was built to participate in the roller derby Night City Wonderland League under the name of Woodland Park Muses. The gang's logo is a stylized lyre, while their colors are white and gold.

The Muses are a large portion of the entertainment sector in Woodland Park, well known for hosting parties in their club/rink, as well as for their rhinestone-studded razzle-dazzle on the roller track. They are a common sight in the neighborhood, often buzzing groups of Dynalar employees from the neighboring office, and other times handing out flyers for any event they have scheduled at Xanadu. With the hosted club parties, the Muses pay their bills, roller equipment, and salaries. This income is notable during roller derby seasons, when the club is filled with of sports fans wanting to watch the event.[1]

History[]

Early history[]

At some point during the Time of the Red, the Muses converted a former shipping depot into Xanadu, their headquarters and roller derby training grounds. The gang was known to play against other teams in Night City, led by their captain and gang leader Calliope. The Muses also used Xanadu as a nightclub, where they housed many parties and events.

In 2040, a fatidic incident occurred in the Watson Whammers' arena in northern Night City, where Trauma Team smashed through the building's roof and opened fire against their roller derby opponents. That event scared the Muses enough to make a rule for not allowing active TT membership within the Xanadu during games.[1]

2045[]

In 2045, the Woodland Park Muses and the Pacifica Sea Shells were the favorites to win the yearly roller derby Wonderland League. However, an upcoming match with the Dockside Billhooks was in danger of not being celebrated after much of the Billhooks were arrested by the NCPD due to an event related with smuggled goods and unpaid bribes. With the rest of teams unwilling to fill in after such a short notice, the Muses were worried the match would not happen, which was a very important portion of their income. With all tickets already sold, the gang had no other choice but to rely on a hired mercenary crew to play, since as long as the spectators were entertained and willing to bet, things would run smoothly. The match was celebrated without any major problems.

A couple of months into the roller derby championship, the Muses were knocked out of the 2045 Wonderland League by another team.[1]
