 — Mint, Cyberpunk 2077: Kickdown

Mint is a character in Cyberpunk 2077: Kickdown.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Mint is the daughter of famous Night City street racer and carjacker Jeremy Taylor. He taught her how to steal and drive vehicles.[1] While Mint was a kid, Jeremy was caught by the NCPD and spent two years in prison, leaving his daughter to fend for herself. It was there where he met Gorilla and Caliber, and after leaving prison, a techie known as Kickdown joined his crew as well. At some point afterwards, Jeremy was brought to the Badlands, where he was executed, leaving Mint an orphan.[2]

Mint grew up following in her father's footsteps, and at some point met fellow techie Tiff.[2]

2070s[]

Mint and Tiff spent two years rebuilding a Yaiba sports coupe, replacing many of its pieces by new ones. This process was put on hold after Mint disappeared. She and five other members of a merc crew were confronted by the NCPD, with Mint being the sole survivor. After being arrested, Mint didn't provide any information about her companions nor the chips she had been using to improve her driving skills. The NCPD, who had been looking for Jeremy's old crewmate Kickdown, knew her chips had been created by him, and locked her in a cell. After six months of investigations, the NCPD decided to offer Mint a deal with the condition of finding him. With no other choice but to accept, she was free to return to Night City. Over the course of those six months, Mint had been labeled a snitch who got her crew killed.[1][2]

To find the whereabouts of Kickdown, Mint decided to contact an old crewmate of the techie, Gorilla. She knew him from the old days, but to pick his interest Mint stole the Mizutani Shion of Tyger Claws member Green Dragon — whom Gorilla had beef with — then drove it to Kabuki, where the Demons of Kabuki car race was brewing up. As expected, she found Gorilla there and while he was looking at the Mizutani's engine, Mint told him that she wanted to meet Kickdown. He told her no one knew where he was and dismissed her inquiries. He also told her to leave as the race was about to start, but if she was thinking of joining, she'd better not get herself killed. Mint decided to participate, planning to win by using Kickdown's chips to gain the upper hand.

Despite the difficulty of the race, Mint won at the last second, but right after was cornered by Green Dragon's people. To protect her, Gorilla threatened the gangsters to leave and told her to follow him. While in a diner, Mint convinced Gorilla to let her talk with Kickdown after she promised him the name of an NCPD mole among his people. He said he would discuss it with Caliber as long as she told them the name of the mole. As a extra, Gorilla also took Dragon's Shion. After leaving the diner, Mint encountered her two undercover contacts from the NCPD, who were making sure she was on-track.[1]

Mint returned to Tiff's home in Watson, where she found out she was not there at the moment. She decided to break into the building and spent the night in a bed. The next morning, Tiff returned home and found her, angry at Mint for trespassing and disappearing for six months. After mentioning she needed the Yaiba car, Tiff asked her where she had been for all that time, with Mint saying she didn't want to drag her in, but that she was involved with the NCPD, and with Gorilla and Caliber. Tiff was worried about her, warning that someone like Caliber was dangerous and unpredictable. She also mentioned Mint's bad reputation in the city, but that she didn't want to believe any of that. For Mint it wasn't that simple, as she was playing both sides trying to come out on top. After both finished installing the new engine to the car, Tiff gave Mint her handgun and asked her to not get killed.

Mint took the Yaiba for a spin in the Badlands, where she could test how good the car was at drifting, the only reason they had upgraded it for. She went to the Serpent, a place where her father set up a record for a consecutive drift, though she didn't mange to beat it. At that time Gorilla contacted her, giving Mint information about Riot, a boxer who had changed gang sides and who Gorilla wanted to teach a lesson. He would vouch for her meeting with Kickdown if she managed to bring that guy to him.

After following Riot for a day, Mint failed at her original plan to capture him. She eventually had to ask for Tiff's help about a garage in Watson where Riot was heading. To stop him from getting there, Tiff left her workshop and crashed her car into Riot's, allowing Mint to capture him after first checking up on Tiff first. Mint put the unconscious Riot on the backseat of her Yaiba and drove to a building in the middle of the Badlands. That ride made her remember on how her father had been killed. After delivering Riot to Gorilla and figuring out what was going to happen to him, Mint asked Gorilla if Riot had any kids. He responded that he didn't know, asking her if it mattered, to which she responded with a no.

After returning to Tiff's place, Mint found a Tyger Claw car parked in front of her building. She panicked, grabbed her gun and went to the car only to find Green Dragon and another gangster dead. Suddenly, Mint's NCPD contacts appeared, commenting that was a gift from them, as the NCPD always took care of their people as long as they showed results. Their cold-blooded behavior shocked Mint, who was left without any words as they both left.[2]
