Minimallism (also known as the RC Night Market) is located in the Rancho Coronado suburb of Night City.

Overview[]

Minimallism is a former shopping mall where a Night Market is held. The rest of the building is inhabited by reclaimers, who have their own gardens to grow food. Only a section of the mall is overseen by Ms. Mynah, who helps a number of fixers sell their wares here.[1]

Held each 5th day of every month, to attend this market you needed an invitation by Ms. Mynah, who every month sent five hundreds passcodes via Zchat. Security was made up of competent, yet polite edgerunners, who turned away anyone without an invitation.

The atmosphere of this place was generally convivial and pleasantly bustling, as if it was an old-fashioned souk or bazaar without the old-fashioned inconveniences. Ms. Mynah curated each of the stalls, and rented out excess space to other fixers to provide the right amount of provisions to encourage customers to linger and spend money. Trusted clients went into the building, showed their passcodes to the polite security stationed at the entrance, and then shopped in the bazaar at will.

Wealthy customers could have their measurements taken in an automated measuring booth, then vendors with pattern-drafting software and skilled stitchers on their payroll begin the fabrication of a unique outfit or custom-tailor existing clothing. Said customer could then go off to other stalls to enjoy shopping and beverages before returning for a final fitting.

Other more cheaper options existed as well, as the bazaar had a plethora of ready-towear looks, freshly unearthed from various shipping containers or assembled and reassembled from recycled and reclaimed fabric with lace and patchwork additions. Ms. Mynah often beat other fixers to the most recent fashion looks by dint of logistics, as she had close ties to Fixie, who ran a city-wide network of street couriers, and she paid well for information leading to the acquisition of new fashion goods.[1]

History[]

2020s - 2030s[]

Prior to the Fourth Corporate War, Minimallism was a popular shopping plaza that the locals visited. After the war, it was abandoned as supplies dried up and the stores became unprofitable. What was left of the vast, sprawling building was shut down and the structure was locked up behind vast metal shutters.

Around a decade later, by the 2030s, this building at the heart of Rancho Coronado was occupied by squatters, and later reclaimers used its empty spaces to set up gardens to grow food. These gardeners begun to sell the excess food to nomads, eventually brining in the attention of local fixers, who paid the reclaimers with fertilizer and spare parts in order to occupy spaces in the vast shopping mall.[2][1]

2040s[]

By the 2040s, Minimallism had become the location of dozens of individual ventures, each one put together by various local fixers working in cooperation. Alongside the gardeners, these Night Markets that were set up continuously offered the illusion of an ongoing bazaar instead of dozens of individual operations. Of these fixers, Ms. Mynah was the most prominent one. She had an office in the mall, from which she curated all the stalls according to the romantic traditions she learned from her grandmother, who waxed lyrical about the dazzling markets in her former home of Mumbai.

By 2045, this bazaar was a very popular place to visit.[2][1]
