The Chimera 0005-C M[1] is a combat robot manufactured by Militech in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.[2]

Overview[]

The Chimera is a large, hexapedal robot, equipped with a dome-like turret that can fire devastating energy beams. It has a system which can hold an AI to use the robot.[3]

BARGHEST had at least two Chimeras.[1][4]

In 2077, while saving President Rosalind Myers, V and her encountered a Chimera in a BARGHEST storage. Song So Mi took over the robot to fight off the enemy, but lost control to a rogue AI from beyond the Blackwall. The AI, using the Chimera, attacked V and Rosalind. In the end, after getting damaged in a fall, the Chimera was destroyed by V and Myers.[1] V had the option to take its core.

CHIMERA

The Chimera is a prototype tank designed for combat in difficult terrain, including urban areas. It was developed under the leadership of Militech armored division chief engineer Dr. Filippo Andrews. The project was created in response to the need for a "new heavy tank capable of sustained fire and prolonged engagement of enemy forces". The design of the Chimera tank was developed between 2065 and 2069. The standard loadout includes a KL-274XYA flechette cannon, a PAN-12 Furia laser cannon, a GD27-Angstschema launcher with both surface-to-surface and surface-to-air capability (SSM/SAM), a combat gas atomizer, smoke screens and a sophisticated ICE cyberdefense system (TYA-12) to neutralize enemy netrunner hacks. Although about thirteen Chimera units were produced, it never entered mass production. According to engineers from the rival Arasaka corporation, the Chimera wouldn't have proved a worthwhile investment due to the unit's apparent "vulnerability to attacks from above, hindering its performance in the urban arena for which it was designed." The PAN-12 Furia laser cannon was designed to neutralize heavily armored ground and air targets. The cannon is capable of two modes:
1. Burst fire - short beams of plasma capable of causing temporary electrical disruption to hostiles;
2. Continuous fire - a powerful, high-energy beam capable of cutting through the latest in corporate armor technology. The KL-274XYA flechette cannon is a fast-firing heavy turret (4,800 rounds per minute) that is most effective against organic and lightly armored units. The flechettes can also contain incendiary and explosive elements and the cannon is integrated with a thermal targeting system. The Chimera's six legs provide excellent mobility and versatility in urban terrain, capable of climbing inclines of up to 87 degrees. The legs are reinforced with advanced ERA (explosive reactive armor), but should its legs sustain critical damage, it can still maintain near full mobility with only four. Each leg is also equipped with kinetic energy absorbers and energy recovery systems. Every step it takes generates approximately 31,000 Newtons of force.

Trivia[]

  • The design of the Chimera and its fight seem to be a nod to the Spider-Tank battle sequence from the cyberpunk animated movie Ghost in The Shell. In the movie, Motoko Kusanagi runs and guns while taking cover behind walls around the Spider-Tank. At the end of the fight, she jumps on the tank's hull and attempts to remove its core, similarly to V.
