Lorraine, listen, I'm trying to get to the bottom of this phant stuff. How it works, what the mechanism of addiction is. Could you send me the soft for those new Arasaka liver boosters? --------------- From: Lorraine Parks To: Maggie Isley RE: how phant works All right, just remember if anything happens I'll say you klepped the data from us.

Popular in Dogtown, "phant" is a highly addictive hallucinogenic drug that affects the central nervous system and causes irreversible changes in the brain. It stimulates the production of both serotonin and dopamine. Delusions and hallucinations involving all the senses (sight, hearing, touch) appear soon after the drug is consumed – hence the rumors that the drug is stronger than even the best braindances. Interestingly, the environment surrounding the person consuming the drug has a direct influence on the course of the hallucination. In Dogtown, one may already find designated "trip tellers" who lead "phant" addicts through their "experiences" and thus create their so-called trips for them. The effect is similar to that of "Deep Dive," though the latter is far less addictive and has a much weaker effect on the senses. "Phant" causes hallucinations and altered states of consciousness that are far more intense (according to patient descriptions, around two to four times stronger). My statistics indicate that 86 percent of those who try "deep dive" later move on to "phant," making the former something of a gateway drug. When the effects of "phant" subside, severe irritability, anxiety and insomnia are known to occur. With time, those addicted to the drug complain of difficulty concentrating and assimilating new information as well as memory issues, which is a direct result of interneuron damage. "Phant" causes neuronal death after only the first use and can cause personality changes in the user. A full chemical analysis indicates that the drug has been formulated to circumvent the blockers present in the most popular liver and kidney boosters as well as brain-protecting cyberware.
