La Croix is a French restaurant located in the City Center of Night City.
Overview[]
This building used to be a church whose owners were having financial difficulties. Jaqueline duBenalle, La Croix's owner, took over the mortgage on the building from the bank, and foreclosed the church immediately. A mere month later, the restaurant was opened to the public, with most of the traditional religious trappings still in place.
Popular magazines considered La Croix the best restaurant in Night City, while other, more respectable sources considered it banally gimmicked. What was true is that the food and service were excellent, but too "fashionable" for a lot of people. The restaurant even served French style raw seafood they called Siouçais.
Restaurants like La Croix tended to prosper in urban areas, where a sizable portion of the residents believed whatever the media told them. This restaurant was no exception; it was always packed with low wage corporate slaves having affairs, edgerunner wannabes, and movers trying to impress people. Jaqueline herself was almost always on the premises during the dinner hour, socializing with with the guests and dressed in one of her provocative outfits.[1]
