Kasim's is a Turkish coffeehouse and bar located in the Glen district of central Night City.

Overview[]

Kasim's is notorious for its strong thimble-sized cups of Turkish-style street coffee, as well as some of the best-scented tobacco on the market, all compounded to be smoked through a nargile or hookah. The establishment smells like a combination of rose-scented tobacco and bitter coffee tinged with cardamom. The owner, Kasymbek Kasim, doesn't allow alcohol to be sold here, and the cafe is closed on Fridays for Friday prayers.

Each thick and bitter street coffee (with no actual coffee beans involved) are served in small cups, unfiltered, and flavored with cardamom. Drinkers are supposed to drain the contents and leave the dregs behind. As a compliment to guests, Kasim's serves each pot of coffee with a plate of sweets such as Turkish delights and baklava. The sweets are made by the owner's mother, Elif, who runs the kitchen. She sometimes comes out of the kitchen to greet her favourite customers or take a puff or two of rose-scented tobacco herself. If Elif likes the customers, she can ocassionally read the coffee grounds for them to try and tell their future.[1][2]

History[]

Opened at some point during the Time of the Red, Kasim's proprietor, Kasymbek, was a devout Muslim of Turkish descent and therefore did not serve any alcohol in his establishment. Despite this unusual take in Night City, by the 2040s, Kasim's had become notorious for its coffee, sweets and flavored tobacco. Candlemaker, a regular patron, liked to hang out in this coffeehouse and play backgammon with the owner, mostly because there was no alcohol to tempt him.[1]

In 2045, a crew of mercenaries traveled to Kasim's for information. Here they met the owner and two patrons. One was Chevalier, a guitarist whom they convinced to attend Grace Steel's audition for her new band. The other one was Destiny Hondel, an "on-spot" reporter for Network 54 who helped them find more about the Bozos circus they were after.[3]

Known Products[]

  • Kasim's signature drink during the 2040s was a strong black street coffee complemented with a small plate of sweets. It cost 10eb per cup, to be refilled as long as you kept buying the 20eb per foil packet of tobacco for your nargile.[1]
  • In 2045, a delectable coffee cost 20eb per cup, and a packet of tobaccos cost 50eb.[3]
