The Kanzaki Family are a yakuza family operating in Night City.

History[]

Early history - 2020s[]

After the Night City Mob War ended in 2011, the local American mafias and Japanese yakuza families learned their lessons when dealing with megacorporations. Soon after, both mob groups formed a tentative peace between them, while also treading more cautiously in the day to day life of NC. Many yakuza operated out of the Japantown district.

By 2020, the Kanzaki was the dominant yakuza family in Night City, with Hichigo Kanzaki acting as the oyabun. His family and retainers lived on the top floor of the Tokagawa Tower, and most meetings of his clan were done at the XYZ Piano Bar, a well-known establishment in Japantown. Hichigo was an aging and powerful man, though he was considered a leading piece of the local community, someone who took his civic responsibilities as seriously as he did his underworld businesses. Although his son, Shin Kanzaki, was slated to inherit control of the yakuza family once the oyabun retired, Hichigo was becoming fond of Kenshiro Saeba, a solo that had rescued the oyabun's daughter, Yasume Kanzaki, from a rival mob group, and was hiding out in Japantown. During his time there, Hichigo treated Kenshiro almost as a second son, much to Shin's jealousy.[1]

2030s - 2040s[]

By the 2040s, the Kanzaki was the last true yakuza family in Night City, with a major presence in the areas of Watson and South Night City. Around 2045 they were at odds with the Tyger Claws.[2]
