Kanto is a region of Japan in the Cyberpunk series.

Overview[]

Kanto is known as the factory that keeps Japan running, without it the country would not be as economically powerful as it currently is. It's also Japan's most populated region and home to the Greater Tokyo Area and it encompasses seven prefectures: Gunma, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Saitama, Tokyo, Chiba and Kanagawa. Tokyo is the capital of the country and the most populated city. Other cities are Yokohama, Hakone (and its five lakes), Saitama, Chiba and Kamakura. The rest consists of the mountains that form the land borders that separate it from the other regions.[1]

Kanto holds almost more than 50% of the total population of the country, it's also highly secured by the national police and the Arasaka policing services. The Kanto region is the most highly developed, urbanized, and industrialized part of Japan. The economic success largely corresponds to Tokyo metropolitan area with the exception Yamanashi prefecture. Like the rest of the country the corporations run the show here, keeping Kanto looking as a utopia despite the inner struggle within. Gangs are mostly absent here, however most bosozoku ride on the outskirts of the more rural area.[2]

The head of Government is located in Tokyo, a power struggle between Arasaka and FACS continues. Despite the lack of reliable honest politicians that aren't bought by the corporations, they still run the country and have full control of the SDF.[2]

The people of Kanto (Kanto-jin) are very different from those in the western part of Japan. Often known for being serious, cold, uptight, and overly concerned with style and appearance. However most kanto-jin consider those of the West to be too goofy and informal.
