INTERPOL is an international police force that deals with crime globally, particularly in the European Economic Community.

Overview[]

INTERPOL was initially conceived as an independent police force that operated regardless of country, though this fell through and it became mainly active in the European Economic Community.

The headquarters of INTERPOL is called the Pyramid and is located near Berlin. The bottom floors are public areas where press conferences are held, and it includes a gift shop. The higher up the chain of command you are, the higher up the pyramid your office is. Located in the same place the pharaoh's tomb would be is the main server for the Grid, INTERPOL's main Data Fortress, which contains the worlds largest database on criminal activity.

INTERPOL is split into six separate directories, controlled by the same admins. Field agents usually stick with whatever directory they were first assigned to, but can transfer to other directories or if they’re higher-ranked transfer to an admin position.[1]

I-1: Counter-Terrorism[]

The first directory formed to combat what was deemed the biggest threat at the time. Nowadays, I-1 serves more in an intelligence role as the regular military and corporate-sponsored paramilitary organizations are the ones that actively fight. It still retains a small army of armed troops for its use, but its specialty is in infiltration.[1]

I-2: Counter-Espionage[]

Founded to deal with spies from foreign nations, and later spies from corporations. Its main day-to-day is keeping secret information secret, such as monitoring bank accounts for suspicious activity. They also monitor people that spend heavy time outside of Europe or a members of foreign corporations, sometimes assigning random tails on them. All data recovered by these tails is sent to the Grid and analyses by an AI for anything that might indicate subversive activity.

The New United States is the most monitored country by INTERPOL, and according to rumors 10% of senior US military and intelligence officers are actually undercover INTERPOL spies. Given that the US still holds an advantage in terms of firepower, this will be of great use if they ever go to war.

I-2 agents are considered the best-of-the-best when it comes to infiltration. They also use a great amount of Cyberware and have their own R&D facilities for it.[1]

I-3: Netcrime[]

I-3's jurisdiction is incredibly limited as NetWatch is tasked with most Net-based crime; their role is specifically to react to netcrimes that effect the European Economic Community and its assets. The directory has struggled since is inception due to its constant failure to train its own Netrunners, but has recently begun a campaign to recruit 'runners they manage to catch breaking the law. They need to be heavily monitored to keep from going rogue, but most captured 'runners are happy to go mad with power.[1]

I-4: Corporations[]

The corporate directorate is designed to monitor corporations that operate within Europe and to prevent them from breaking or overturning laws. Most of their work is information-gathering, figuring out the long-term plans of the corp and building up small crimes to use as blackmail if the need arises.[1]

I-5: Orbital Control[]

Responsible for all facets of law enforcement in space. They’ve managed to pressure most orbitals into allowing INTERPOL jurisdiction over their off-planet interests, but the New United States still consistently refuses.[1]

I-6: Organized Crime[]

I-6 split off from I-4 in 2018 after it was discovered that international criminal organizations were now operating in mostly the same way as a business. They target people smuggling drugs, weapons, bodies, food, money, etc. over European borders.

I-6 operates alongside the anti-immigration patrol heavily, as both deal with a form of smuggling, and it’s expected that the two organizations may eventually be merged into one. There’s still a conflict on what to do with any found immigrants, as I-6 prefers to arrest while the patrol usually shoots on sight.[1]

History[]

In 1993, INTERPOL was sanctioned to operate outside of the European Economic Community's borders. After this, they began a recruitment drive that involved recruiting school students, sending them to exclusive schools and training camps.[2]
