Harold Han is a character in Cyberpunk 2077.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Harold Han and his family were one of the victims of the Fourth Corporate War. After the bomb turned Night City into shambles, Harold and his family moved into a shelter in order to survive and would walk for miles just to get clean water and food. Eventually the city began to rebuild, bringing back order and stability to Night City and Harold and his family were able to move into a proper house with all the benefits of modern day civilization. Harold, wanting to keep building Night City and make sure it never reverted back to chaos, joined the NCPD and eventually became a detective.[1] Harold at some point was partnered with fellow detective River Ward.

2077[]

In 2077, Night City's Mayor Lucius Rhyne was killed at a secret sex club, the Red Queen's Race, with a spiked BD. Harold was sent in by Deputy Mayor Weldon Holt to cover it up and then move the mayor's body discreetly back to his home, and say he died of heart complications instead, which Harold readily complied to, though he was unaware of the spiked braindance and assumed that Rhyne passed due to his heart giving out during a session. Despite this, his partner, River, couldn't let go of the idea that the mayor died under suspicious circumstances, with Harold repeatedly telling River to just let it go, as his supervisor had ordered him to do so.

If V completes I Fought the Law:

While Harold and River were grabbing a bite to eat at Chubby Buffalo's BBQ, V approached them. Once Harold realized the mercenary was there to talk about the mayor's untimely death, Harold once more told his partner he should stop trying to re-open a closed case but this fell on deaf ears as River noted he was merely listening to some gossip, nothing more. Exasperated, Harold left the two to talk as he needed to go pick up his daughter.
Some time after that, Harold got a call from River, requesting they meet up to talk. The two met up once more at the diner, with V still in attendance with River. Once River made it clear he knew Harold's part in the coverup regarding the late mayor's death, Harold confirmed it, but re-asserted he did it to look out for his NCPD family and unlike River he had no objections to doing so as nobody was clean in Night City. While Harold didn't reveal it was Holt that told him to cover it up, River was able to deduce it anyways and said he'd file a report with Internal Affairs with Harold's confession. Unfazed by this, Harold remarked it wouldn't get River anywhere other than put him in the higher ups' sights and, with that, he then drove off. As Harold guessed, River was suspended soon after and removed as Harold's partner.

HUMANS OF NIGHT CITY — HAROLD HAN

Back when I was a kid, the world was hella different. I mean, Night City was in shambles. The future? Stability? Felt like something for rich people. The Fourth Corporate War was pretty recent history, and everyone was still getting back on their feet. Nobody gave a damn about us – hell, they tried to make an example of our "resilience." Yeah, like you get a prize for putting up with shit. We lived in shelters for a while. I remember walking miles every day just for clean water and something to eat. But you know what? We never gave up. People here know how to survive. Our own businesses started to rebuild, then the nomads joined. We got our order and stability. Eventually, my family even got a house with walls and a proper roof. We had tap water, frozen scop, all the benefits of modern civilization. Poor, resilient Night City was back. She's got her issues, sure, but we'll keep building, just like we always have. On our own terms, without sliding back into chaos. That's why I joined the force.[1]

Notes[]

  • If River's quests are completed, he'll mention that he once considered Harold a friend until he learned the truth about the latter's role in the coverup.
