Haiti, or Republic of Haiti, was a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea.

History[]

2040s - 2060s[]

At some point during the Time of the Red, Haiti and the Dominican Republic were affected by a disaster that decimated the Dominican part of the Hispaniola island. Refugees from this event left the island, with a number of them moving to Night City during the 2040s.[1]

In 2062, a large tropical storm devastated what remained of Haiti, forcing its last residents to abandon the country in order to survive. Philippe Oreste, a captain of a ship, sailed through the waves, winds, and torrential rains of the storm to save 150 lives and guide them to safety atop pneumatic rafts. Over the following months, with their home lost, Philippe led the refugees in search of shelter and a new life, wandering around North America and eventually reaching Night City, where they were employed in the construction of a resort city in the Pacifica district alongside other Haitians and other communities living there. The ancient loa deities such as Agwe, Erzulie or Legba were eventually forgotten, for they could not look after the Night City Haitian community as the nascent Voodoo Boys had come to do.[2][3]

2070s[]

Despite constant push by the Night City government and the NCPD, the Haitian community and Voodoo Boys gang fought back from returning the Pacifica district to them. Pacifica to them was their new Haiti, where the community planned to rebuild their homes.[4]
