Reason: Conditional statements

Rogue contacts V with a gig that she presents as a necessary evil. Either disrupt an otherwise respectable small business, or risk Militech cracking down on the city to stem the tide of jailbroken and untraceable weapons bearing their manufacturer's mark. The contract is for the former outcome.

V may either enter the Data Inc. store normally, through a set of industrial shutters in the alleyway south of the storefront, or circle around to the west of the store to attempt either a Technical Ability check on the rear door's lock or a Body check to force open the garage door.

If V enters via the storefront:

V can pose as a customer and even shop at the store without raising suspicion. The item selection is typical of a junk vendor, although sold at a significant markup by the surly and abnormally muscular salesperson. No weapons are available to buy even if V hints to the vendor that they are aware of the store's "high end" inventory. A gangoon will be arguing with the back-room staff about exactly this when V enters, but he leaves shortly after expressing his disappointment.

If V attacks the employees or is caught trespassing:

The customer puts aside his complaints and defends the store. If the employees are alerted after the gangoon leaves, he will also be alerted, although he's going to be too far away to provide much immediate help.

If V enters any other way, or tries to get behind the counter:

Attempting to get into an employee-only area will make the Animals posing as legitimate businessmen attack V on sight. If V opens the rear garage door, Rebeca will use her Netrunner skills to immediately start tracing V's location - presuming that the Animal in the back of the store doesn't see V as soon as the door opens.

Rebeca and a final guard can be found downstairs in a netrunning den. The last guard can be overheard on a holocall complaining to a friend that he's missing leg day because he has to "make sure [Rebeca] doesn't starve," provided he hasn't been alerted. Rebeca herself is out of her netrunning chair working on computers. A data shard in her inventory will reveal that she's in this business under duress rather than her own initiative, as Rogue had assumed. She will turn hostile if she spots V regardless; it seems that she has too much to lose.

If Rebeca is killed:

Rogue expresses no remorse if Rebeca is killed. In her mind, this was about maintaining equilibrium and nothing more.

If Rebeca is knocked unconscious and delivered to Rogue:

Rogue's tone is slightly more congratulatory. Incidentally, the quickest way to the fixer's transport is through the one-way door at the south end of the netrunning den.

Rogue does not remark on Rebeca's motivations in either outcome.

Journal Entry[]

I'm guessing you don't follow the stock market, but recently Militech has been lagging behind everyone else. Just stroll around Corpo Plaza and you'll see their HQ abuzz like a hornet's nest. You can tell they're just itching for an excuse to send the armed cavalry into the city.
You've got reasonable people telling you not to get under corps' skins, and then you have Rebeca Price, who decides to open a fucking store selling hacked (and previously stolen) Militech equipment. It's not that I don't value small businesses - on the contrary! It's just that not having the fucking army on our streets is something I value more.
Rebeca Price needs to disappear. The "how" is your call. I won't go into the fine details. And I'm sure you know what to do if any Animals get in your way. They of all creatures should understand the importance of balance in our delicate little ecosystem.

Objectives[]

  • Enter the electronics store.
  • Reach the back of the store.
  • Find a way into the basement.
  • Find Rebeca Price.
  • Neutralize Rebeca Price.
  • Carry Rebeca out of the store.
  • Carry the body to the car.

Associated Shards[]

Notes[]

  • To trigger this gig, you must first have completed all of Padre's gigs.
