Germany is the industrial and political center of all of Europe and a major member of the European Economic Community.

History[]

German Streets of 2020

With the reunification of Germany in 1990, the road to European dominance was clear and inevitable. For the last years of the century, the economic, political, and social dislocations caused by the marriage of two different systems had been overcome, and finally a unified Germany became an acknowledged regional superpower. For the time Germany's strength in Europe was assured.

From 1999 to 2000, the Wasting Plague proved a turning point. Germany was especially hard hit initially but the BioWare labs at Neustrelirz were the first to come up with a partial inoculation. Additionally, the break off of Eastern Bloc countries from the Soviet Union allowed Germany to fill the vacuum of these new economies, making most of them dependent on their trade.

During this time, a politician named Volker Mohr came into power. He preached a safe-seeming version of German nationalism, but upon wining the election they began spewing rhetoric all-too familiar to the German people. He was very quickly deposed, not just by his enemies but by his own political party, as his dogma was too much even for them. It’s said that the European Economic Community's "Fortress Europe" policy is a remaining remnant of this era of politics, as well as Germany's corporate-subservient bent.[1]

By 2077, Germany held the record for most citizens employed by corporations, having 42% of the populace employed.[2]

Government[]

Germany is a democratic federal parliamentary republic where federal legislative power is vested in the Bundestag (the parliament of Germany) and the Bundesrat. The multilateral system has existed since 1949 and has been dominated by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). The judiciary of Germany is independent of the executive and the legislature, while it is common for leading members of the executive to be members of the legislature as well. The political system is laid out in the 1949 constitution "The Grundgesetz (Basic Law)" which remained in effect with minor amendments after German reunification in 1990.

The constitution emphasizes the protection of individual liberty in an extensive catalog of human and civil rights and divides powers both between the federal and state levels and between the legislative, executive and judicial branches.[1]

Culture[]

Germany 2020

German society is heavily evolved around corporate productivity. Due to low birth rates, corporations encourage their employees to send their children to special private schools where they’ll be trained to be good employees from childhood.

In what free time they have, Germans enjoy drag racing on the Autobahn, attending soccer matches, dancing at illegal, high-intensity raves, clubbing, and listening to technoise music.[1]
