Gamescom is an annual video game conference in Cologne, Germany and is one of the largest events of its kind in Europe[1]. Following on from E3 2018, CDProjekt Red debuted Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay footage to the public.

Overview[]

The 42-minute gameplay video had previously been shown only to journalists a few months earlier at E3. The footage runs through the prologue quests Breaking Through and Going Pro. V and Jackie are introduced to fixer Dexter DeShawn, Jackies girlfriend Misty, ripperdoc Victor Vektor as well as introductions to the corporate world with Militech and the gang world with Maelstrom.

Viewers are shown the gameplay with the proviso that the game would look and play differently in the final product. Several high-level mechanics such as Mantis Blades, cybernetics and smartweapons are shown, when they would normally be available at a much higher level later on in the game.

Former Design Director Kyle Rowley also spoke to IGN about the gameplay trailer previously seen at E3 as well as talking about the development of the game and how the studio has gone from working on Witcher to Cyberpunk.

Also shown during the convention was the brief introduction of Johnny Silverhand's hit song Chippin' In. The song featured is more of a rock ballad, and would later be replaced by punk band Refused, who will portray the band Samurai in the final product.
