Black Dog is a song performed by the band Samurai.
Background[]
Recorded right before the Night City Holocaust of 2023, Black Dog was never released due to the loss of its few recordings during said event. Despite that, two known copies survived. One was a pirate datalink made up of a poor quality sample from a studio session recording — with most of the song missing. This sample was found by rockerboy Lilayah, who tried to figure out the whole song, but without any luck. With the help of Trace Santiago though, they managed to contact someone who had a lead about it.
The unknown person presented herself as Samantha, and showed them a slim blue chip which she assured had the complete song. Unfortunately, the chip had been damaged by the EMP blast the 2023 nuke had caused. Additionally, part of it was encrypted. Samantha didn't know what to do with it, but she had made some copies, and gave Lilayah one of them. As a way to return that gift, Lilayah and her friends paid Samantha back by transporting a crate she needed to deliver to Los Alamos in New Mexico.
Once they reached their destination, a woman by the name of Angel took care of the rest. She gave them a good amount of eurodollars for their trouble, and gave Lilayah a matching chip to hers, revealing that the song in the chip was a full recording from the original studio session.[1]
By 2077, Black Dog was usually played on 107.3 Morro Rock Radio.

Notes[]
- Being recorded right before his death, it is likely that Black Dog is the last song ever made by Silverhand.[1]
- While in the Black Dog story the song is said to be a Johnny Silverhand creation (being recorded years after Samurai's breakup), in Cyberpunk 2077 it is said to be a song from Samurai.
Trivia[]
- The line "The escape and the chase is now one!" was originally written as "The escape and the chase become one!".[1]
