The Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) is an organization in the Cyberpunk universe.
History[]
The Federal Intelligence Agency was established in 2006 after the dissolution of the NSA (National Security Agency) and the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) — both members of the defunct Gang of Four — in response to them attempting to overthrow the government. In theory, it was supposed to take over and join their functions, but in practice it remained an underfunded institution of marginal importance for almost half a century.
This all changed after the ratification of the New United States Constitution in 2053. The FIA was granted extensive powers and privileges, and a huge budget made it possible to recruit a veritable army of secret informants and equip them with state-of-the-art technology. Since 2065 when Rosalind Myers became the NUS president, the FIA has grown steadily in strength. The active participation of agents in the course of the Unification War has become an open secret. After the war ended, the FIA's involvement in direct military action was greatly reduced in favor of data acquisition and analysis.
FIA agents now conduct intelligence operations around the world, loyally and discreetly pursuing the NUSA's political objectives. The weekly reports that President Myers receives from the FIA's leadership provided her with invaluable knowledge of the plans and actions of foreign govermnents and multinational corporations, and even a few influential private individuals. Skeptics say that FIA serves Myers mainly as a secret weapon in her political games against Militech.
During the Unification War, FIA agents infiltrated Night City. Their last mission was to kill Murata Ozuru, an admiral of Arasaka. Before the mission was approved though, they were called off by President Myers. Despite this, Agent Jonas Collinson procceeded with the mission on his own. During their last days in the city, three agents were killed.[1]
After the Unification War, Agent Solomon Reed infiltrated what would be known as Night City's Dogtown, where he would act as a sleeper agent. Alena Xenakis was also positioned there.[2]
In 2071, rumors abound that the FIA was in Night City looking for allies to reinforce the NUSA's influence over the city. Since they wanted to do this quietly, they avoided recruiting the 6th Street. However, people did not take these rumors seriously.[3]
In 2077, both Reed and Alex would work with mercenary V during their visit to Dogtown. After saving President Rosalind Myers from BARGHEST, V was given the option to join the FIA.[4]
