Dorio Gunnarsdóttir[2] is a major character in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. She is introduced at the end of episode 2 Like A Boy.
Appearance[]
Dorio is an extremely tall and physically imposing woman. She is the second tallest member of Maine's crew, with only Maine (who has drastically increased his physical size with cyberware) shown to be taller. She has short, blonde hair and strong facial features, as well as serious, sullen looking eyes. Her simple outfit consists of a large, open jacket with nothing underneath and tight, black shorts. Both of her legs are bare metal cyberware and left exposed at all times.
Biography[]
Dorio Gunnarsdóttir was born in Iceland to professional athlete parents. She spent her youth training and traveling the world from competition to competition. The family eventually arrived in Night City for a West Coast Grand Prix Circuit event, but Dorio's father, Gunnar, realized he could make more money in the underground fight tournaments ran by the Animals. Him winning the tournament and joining the gang allowed the family a comfortable life in the city, until one day Gunnar died in a crossfire between his gang and the Voodoo Boys.
Following the death of her father, Dorio shifted her focus from weightlifting and bought a gun after this incident, spending her time roaming the city instead. She eventually found a random Animals member and followed and watched him for days until one night she attempted to kill him in a bar toilet. She approached him from behind in a urinal but failed to pull the trigger. The man broke her nose and pointed her gun at Dorio, only to get his head blown by Maine, who was following Dorio as she followed the gangoon. He then invited her to join his crew of edgerunners, which she accepted in a heartbeat.[2]
Dorio is a veteran Edgerunner and Maine's right-hand crewmate as well as romantic partner. She's jacked and strong, but, despite her tough exterior, has a soft side that she only shows to the people she trusts.[5] She is shown to be one of the earlier members of Maine's crew along with Rebecca and Sasha, as see in the "Let You Down" music video. She, Maine and Pilar are the crewmembers who initially arrive at Lucy's apartment in Episode 2 after being alerted that David was in possession of Maine's already purchased Sandevistan.
The first time we see Dorio in action is during the Maxim car-hacking mission in Episode 3, though her only task is to clone Maxim's car keys while Rebecca distracts him, which ultimately backfires. However, the mission ends up being successful overall.
In Episode 4, we see more of Dorio's exceptional physical strength and adept boxing capabilities. She is seen training David in hand-to-hand combat, where she shows him up by striking a punching bag so hard it flies multiple feet into the air. We also see that she is a generally cheerful person, especially when drinking with her friends. Her relationship with Maine is extremely physical--expected, as they are both muscle in the crew--and sometimes seemingly masochistic, as she is often seen hitting him as a sign of affection. She and Maine are the first to notice growing interest between Lucy and David, and even set up a romantic scenario by dropping them off at Doc's clinic and loaning them Maine's car so he can drive her home. This is the catalyst to the events that lead up to David and Lucy being in a relationship.
After the plan to kidnap Jimmy Kurosaki initially backfires, she accompanies Lucy to rescue David, who had, in turn, been kidnapped by Jimmy. She also accompanies Maine later to kidnap Tanaka. Around this time Maine, begins to suffer cyberpsychosis, which Dorio initially notices when his hands shake uncontrollably. She gently tries to convince him to downgrade his cyberware, to which he responds defensively and goes on a rampage. Dorio manages to inject him with immuno-blockers, ending his episode, but not before he seriously injures Kiwi. As a result, she demands that Lucy take over for Kiwi, an order Lucy initially disagrees with but eventually accepts.
After Lucy attempts to kill Tanaka from the inside, which calls Trauma Team and NCPD to their hideout, Dorio and Maine tell David and Lucy to flee and prepare the getaway car while they attempt to defend the area. Though they manage to hold their own, Maine eventually lapses into cyberpsychosis again, almost shooting Dorio in the process. Dorio is distracted trying to administer suppressants to Maine, resulting in her being shot multiple times in the head and back. Dorio's death causes Maine to finally break and fully give in to cyberpsychosis. David, determined to help them, returns to the hideout to find Maine creating a funeral pyre for Dorio out of explosive canisters. Maine tells him to run, as he will not survive if he stays. When MaxTac arrives, Maine ignites the canisters, completely obliterating himself and whatever remained of Dorio.
Lucy wrote "You were the only family I ever had" on Pilar, Dorio and Maine's shared niche in Night City's Columbarium.
