The Dirty Hippies are a "gang" operating in Night City.

Overview[]

The Dirty Hippies were a group of guerrilla-gardening reclaimers — many of whom were nomads — who possessed expertise in efficient gardening setups. Although they were not a posergang, the name they were referred to stuck, and nothing they tried to do was able to change that.

During the Time of the Red, the Dirty Hippies were based out of Rancho Coronado in Night City. They sold herbs laced with various drugs, collectively known as ganga, with cannabis being their main crop. The ganga they farmed was mostly for internal use, though a percentage appeared in Night Markets across the city, with more shipped out on nomad convoys in exchange for money. The Hippies were also able to build efficient solar and aquaponic setups, and were always welcoming sweat equity and financial help to turn abandoned neighborhoods in blighted areas more livable.[1][2][3]

The group was mostly communed-based, and anyone who disagreed with their local cell often wandered off to join another one, leading to a steady circulation of outside talent and knowledge. Overall, however, they appeared rather cultish, something that didn't give much trust to outsiders. The Dirty Hippies considered Continental Brands their main opressor, using their nomad contacts from time to time to help them against the corporation. On the other side, the Hippies often set up mutual advantage arrangements with edgerunners; trading food, lodging, or ganga in exchange for firepower and protection.[1]

Around 2045, the Dirty Hippies were raided by a merc crew, with a firefight that ended with the loss of several members and garden beds. Similar conflicts had happened to other guerrilla gardens in Night City, and there were rumors that Continental Brands was behind it.[4]
