A Data Pool is an open protocol local area network (LAN) for displaying and sharing data on CitiNets that anyone can use. The open protocols were created by Ziggurat in 2030 in order to provide the Night City CitiNet with increased usability.[1]These information servers and exchange systems are designed for open use exclusively within the limits of a city. Data Pools create free, open content through the collaborative efforts of a community of users. In design, they are similar to the hyper–stack "page" system attempted and then abandoned for the NET in the early 90's. They are free to use by anyone who has access to a Data Term or an Agent.[2]
Most content on Data Pools in North America is created with the use of Ziggurat Apps and accessed through the company's one-stop platform for sharing content: the Garden. At no cost, Garden users can set up their own space on the Data Pool, a Garden Patch, so they can share text, audio, virtual, and Braindance creations. Ziggurat runs targeted advertisement before, after, and during Garden content, and gives creators a cut of ten percent of the ad's revenue. Most PopMedia stars in the Time of the Red get their start on the Garden, where entertainment corporations and performers, no matter their size, also have Garden Patches to reach the largest possible audience.[1]
