The D.J.'s were a gang operating in Night City.
Overview[]
The D.J.'s were a chromer gang in Night City whose membership consisted of wannabe rockerboys with little to no talent, and a lot of overpriced musical hardware like boom boxes and synthetic instruments. Most of them were tweens, engaging in small time crimes such as larceny, ticket scalping, bootleg memorabilia, or fake rock star autographs (by 2020 they were selling brand new "autographed" pictures of James Mason). They lived in the basement of Kitty Liquor, trading minor street muscle for living space. Described as a "Born to Lose" band, the D.J.'s were choreographed by a similar no-talent leader known as Johnny B. Good.
Its members wore a red silk scarf tied midway up the right upper arm. They also carried an electric guitar and used the slogan "Elvis lives."
The gang members were generally non-violent, though they paid their expensive instruments with their small time crimes. Rif, the gang's techie, handled the forging and bootlegging activates from the Kitty's basement, which contained a formidable stash of equipment. Their only main worry was what to do when encountering a more dangerous gang than themselves with a better pitch, something that was pretty easy considering the D.J.'s members. Despite this, they also offered some protection to the Metal Heaven musical mecca store in hopes of getting some hi-tech handouts, and occasionally left someone of the gang right at the establishment's entrance just in case any local celebrity dropped by. Most of their time was spent trying to get noticed by the real talent, but the most they ever manged to accomplish was getting some groupies into a party with Johnny Silverhand some years prior to 2020, though they were not able to build a reputation with just that.
If you flattered their "talent" enough, they had a great deal of knowledge about the Rock scene in Night City. The D.J.'s could share where the after gig parties were at or where the rockerboys usually hanged out, though this didn't mean they were able to help you get in there. If you were brave enough to risk it, the gang could sell you cheap tickets too, though there was a really good chance that you were not the only one that had paid for the seat.[1]
In the aftermath of the Night City Holocaust, a lot of gangs in Night City just fell apart. The D.J.'s were one of these, with its members simply scattering away, thus dissolving the gang.[2]
In the 2030s, there was an attempted retread of the D.J.'s, but the Piranhas quickly absorbed them.[3]
