This article is about the location in Cyberpunk 2020. For other uses, see Corporate Center (disambiguation).

The Corporate Center was a district of Central Night City, located roughly in the middle. It was considered part of the City & Corporate District.

History[]

1990s - 2010s[]

When Richard Night founded Coronado City, he planned the Corporate Center to be a super-modern shining beacon of enlightened capitalism. Over the years, this district became the home of glittering office towers and beautiful parks. Richard showed off his personal architectural skills in many of the corporate "starscrapers" that soon became the most visible signs of the city's rising affluence. The crowning jewel of this area was the Corporate Plaza, where some of the most powerful megacorporations in the world built the tallest high-rises in the later renamed Night City.

Like any modern metropolis, Night City was always in a state of flux. Over the years, most neighborhoods and districts wended their way through a tortuous cycle, alternating between fashion and disrepair. But the Corporate Center always stood as the exception. The corporations based here spared no expanse in upkeeping it, and this was reflected in the relative safety and elegance of the district. It was all landscaped plazas and sculpted architecture. There were no cracks in the sidewalks, the streetlights always worked, and there was always an NCPD officer around if you needed them. Anyone who looked or acted out of place were liable to be stopped and questioned, and those who couldn't adequately justify their presence would be quietly escorted out of the area. The neighborhoods surrounding Corporate Plaza were not as tightly controlled, but they still had a high corporate ambience, and the upscale found there warranted a considerable, though discreet police presence.

Shared by both Plaza Business Tower and West City Tower, a large public underground parking garage was located in the middle of the plaza, costing 10eb per hour. NCTC bus connections to other parts of Central Night City were available through lines 22, 23 and 68. NCART connections with the metropolitan area were available as well.

The Corporate Center was active 24/7, though it was obviously more noticeable during business hours, when most of the workforce was active, and the majority of restaurants, boutiques and shopping courts were open. Vehicular traffic varied from very congested during commute hours, to light or moderate in midnight. During the night, the number of shoppers and residents decreased, while the percentage of police, security and service personnel increased. The NCPD took special interest in watching over the border between Corporate Plaza and Lake Park, as well as all the transit stations.[1][2]

2020s[]

By 2020, the Corporate Center was where the real power in Night City was located, home of the real rulers of the city, including the North American headquarters of Arasaka, the Arasaka Towers.

During the Fourth Corporate War, most companies left while Militech and Arasaka fought each other. During an assault on the Arasaka Towers, a nuclear device went off, causing the Night City Holocaust. This event destroyed much of the City & Corporate District, turning the area into what would be known as the Hot Zone. The ruins of the Old Corporate Center were part of that wasteland.[2]
