The Bodukkan Center for Performing Arts was located in the Japantown district of Central Night City.
Overview[]
The Bodukkan was considered one of the most prestigious performing arts centers on the United States' West Coast. Its premiere attraction was the Nakagawa Kabuki Troupe, who were hailed as one of the greatest Kabuki performing groups in said art's history. When they were not performing on the center's main stage, it was used for first-run movies or Broadway plays from the East Coast. The performance center also featured music concerts, operas, and other theater plays as well.
The building's original funding came from a combination of Arasaka grants and matching funds donated from the leading yakuza families in Night City. The performance center's security was known to be very intolerant of undesirables, and gangs like the Julliard were not welcome.
The Bodukkan was worldwide famous for its posh luxury, and some of the Japanese visitors liked to think of it as a little gem of culture set among the gaijin barbarians. Corporates loved to visit the newest performances from the Nakagawa troupe.[2]
After the Night City Holocaust, the Nakagawa troupe abandoned Japantown and established the new Nakagawa Kabuki Theater in the Watson Development.
Layout[]
The Bodukkan Center featured two full stages for plays or operas, and a larger main stage that was usually used to accommodate the Nakagawa Kabuki Troupe. The building's atrium was covered in glass, with access to two different areas of the structure. One had two separate recital halls, and the other was the main performance hall. This last one was divided between the main stage and backstage, the public seats, and two balconies in the back; one for the orchestra, and another one for the public.
On the Bodukkan's rooftop there were AV landing pads, and a large underground parking lot was located beneath the building. The underground lot cost 10eb per hour.[2]
Notes[]
- In 2020, Kimiki Yasaka worked at the Bodukkan as an usherette.[2]
- In 2020, there were rumors that the Philharmonic Vampyres gang met in the uncharted maze tunnels, storage rooms and sound baffles beneath the Bodukkan.[2]
