It starts with mysteries. A scrap of a song. A story your dad told you. A search for a piece of the puzzle. A tale of star-crossed lovers. A forbidden treasure. And a legacy to live up to.

- Although it is never explicitly said who the body belongs to, there are many hints that point to Johnny Silverhand. Moreover, Mike Pondsmith confirmed who it was in Reddit.[2]
- The exact date these events take place is unknown. While the title of the story states 2045, Michiko Arasaka in the story says that fifteen years have passed since the AHQ Disaster, thus giving the year 2038. Moreover, Jumpstart Kit - World Book says that Trace Santiago uncovered the Big Lie in the early 2040s,[3] but he found the full truth after the events in Black Dog.

I was planning to put it into Aftershocks, but the day I finished the story--in fact, about 20 minutes after I finished--somebody flew a plane into the last of the Twin Towers (I had CNN on) and suddenly it was no longer appropriate to release it in the face of so much real world death."
