Benedict McAdams is a reliable, professional merc, often relied upon by the Badlands fixer Dakota Smith, through whose contract he ended up in need of a rescue himself.

Biography[]

The job he had been hired to do was an easy one, although solely by execution. Namely, Councilman McClean, an individual of political perspective, was becoming increasingly problematic for the resident Badlands fixer due to his persistence in coercing her to loose a step in her footing. The only visible solution she could think of is simply removing him from the story altogether, and McAdams was happy to oblige. Due to the sensitivity of the job, he had installed a GPS tracker into his biomon, so the fixer had an eye on him at all times. The job had been finished within merely six hours of it being assigned, although not as low-profile as would allow his name to remain unnoticed, so it was necessary to get him across the border as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the driver he was working with, nomad of the Aldecaldos tribe, Jason Wildriver, had a different plan, and instead of transporting McAdams across the border, he drove him to a shack on Clements Street. The GPS tracker going off route was immediately noticed, so Dakota acted by hiring an additional merc, V, to check out what went wrong and extract McAdams.

Having done this in the past, Wildriver already had a contact with Militech and knew they've put up a bounty on the head of McAdams as soon as the job was done. His demands were not immediately accepted, so McAdams needed to stay put for a little while longer. This time, he had spent sitting in the shack basement, contemplating his role in the matter and thinking up ways to address his captor and whoever agrees to pay the bounty. His demeanour and tough attitude, despite simply being an act of coping with the situation, instilled a form of admiration in his captor, so he was not restrained and provided with both drink and food while the negotiations went on. Once V arrived to meet him, McAdams expected all but a rescue, greeting them as if addressing Militech personnel. He will explain what his job was, briefly denote that the councilman he took out had been bought by Militech to pass bills benefitting their corporation, and that due to this, he became the most valid scapegoat for the mess which ensued. With some extra fault attached too, as it would derail NCPD from looking into other related matters. Due to the situation, he sarcastically exclaims how, due to all the desperation, he'll only be expected to take his own life in order to escape.

Once V explains that they are actually sent by his own fixer rather than Militech, McAdams drops the act entirely, admitting he does not enjoy playing tough in the face of death, although takes pleasure in it fooling his captor to the point of starting to behave like him to appear more tough. In spite of not being bound, McAdams has not moved since being sat on the floor upon arrival and he will complain of, among other things, the difficulty of using his legs. On the way to a more reliable driver, he surprises V with musings about melons. Sweet, honey melons that his fixer's people grow. The kind he direly needed in that basement but was not given among all the food and drink that he received. This appeared to have upset him quite a lot.

A bit further away from the Biotechnica flats, east into the Badlands, Dakota's vetted driver Starkey arrived to pick McAdams up. McAdams was glad to see a familiar face, even though it's been years since they've last met. Final word about him comes in form of a closure message from Dakota, stating that he is safe.[1]

If V successfully saved Benedict in Gig: MIA and chooses to ask Panam and the Aldecaldos for help in Nocturne Op55N1:

As the Aldecaldos have a last night together before attacking Arasaka in order to help V and steal tech, Benedict can be encountered leaning by the stairs up the food truck in the Nomad Camp. He complains that he is getting itchy hands but Dakota told him to sit tight for a little longer as Militech is still sniffing around.[2]
