The Arasaka Family Compound (荒坂地所) is a twenty acre wide piece of prime real estate just outside of Tokyo, holding the impregnable fortress that houses the Arasaka family for over 150 years. As of 2020, it acts as headquarters for Saburo Arasaka and is the home of his family and the site of annual ceremonies.

The area is meticulously kept and holds the main house, a gymnasium and health facility, three small guest cottages and an Osprey landing pad.
The meticulously tended grounds hold a Shinto shrine, a cherry grove, pond and stream, a rock garden and a pavilion. A network of smooth paths allow barrier-free access to all areas.

Only individuals held in the highest trust and confidence by the Arasaka family are allowed within the compound's walls.[1]

Security[]

The place and its inhabitants are never unprotected. Not counting head of security Shintaro Takayama[2] and weapon specialist Katsuo Iwashima[3], thirty live-in guards guarantee the residents' safety, half of them being on duty at any given time. If any of them become unavailable, they are immediately replaced from a pool of 100 Arasaka solos with compound training and privileges.
All house servants are trained to assist in security procedures.

At all times, an Osprey stands ready to evacuate the residents at a moment's notice or transfer Saburo to the Tokyo Headquarters' infirmary. Due to its close proximity, a detachment of Solos is only an emergency call away.

The compound features an attack shelter with a direct communication link to the Tokyo Tower, the adjacent escape tunnel leading off the compound. It can double as a panic room, providing for up to ten people for a week.[1]

History[]

Early History[]

Situated just outside of Tokyo, the land had originally been bought by Sasai Arasaka's father. In the early 1900s, he commissioned a safe haven for the family he was planning to build. The fortress in the classical style of Japan, invoking a time where he believed his country to have been strongest, took only three years to build. In the spirit of feudalism, he came up with many different ways means for its residents to defend themselves or escape at a moment's notice.

Between 1900 and 1905 Sasai met his wife, Yui, who moved into the compound upon construction's conclusion.

In 1919, Saburo was born into the family and was raised in the compound, where his parents lived. After their deaths, he inherited the family compound.
It was the place where he came to terms with the consequences of the crash of his airplane in World War 2, which left him with a useless left arm and a blind left eye.[4] Saburo married three times. Kei (1980) is the result of either his first or second marriage, while Yorinobu (1995) and Hanako (1999) are the children of his last wife Michiko.

2000s[]

In 2016, on the day of Yorinobu's graduation from the university of Todai, Saburo chose to confide some of the more unsavoury details of Arasaka Corporation's business to his younger son. Upon hearing these, he vanished from the compound and his family's life, the only exception being his sister Hanako.

To protect her from the scarring traumas of life in the exterior world, Hanako was raised in the sheltered confines of the compound, receiving her extensive education from hand-picked tutors. Even as a grown woman, she only left it once a month, and under heavy guard.[2]
If her father left the compound at the same time as her, he would be accompanied by the head of security. Hanako would be guarded by Katsuo Iwashima, a fiery young weapons expert consumed with his job and duty, who was secretly in love with her.[3]

In 2020, Saburo was in the Arasaka compound when Shintaro Takayama informed him of the loss of the Arasaka cargo submarine Eel in the North Pacific. Lost with all hands including Captain Hyung Mitsumoto, the submarine had carried "Project Five", which the two men undertook steps in retrieving.

2077[]

Saburo's security was at that time overseen by his bodyguard Goro Takemura, whom he had picked out of the 100 best and most loyal Arasaka soldiers. He trained the cyberninja Sandayu Oda, who would become Hanako's personal bodyguard.[5]
