Appalachia Combined Operational Group is a military organization, which brings together units from different services to patrol the nation and defend it from external and internal threats.

When former Secretary of Defense Jonathan Seward declared martial law on August 17, 1996 and suspended the US Constitution, Combined Operational Groups were deployed to maintain order throughout the country.
Appalachia COG has internal military jurisdiction over this sector (Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia). It is one of the smaller COG's, having its two main bases at the old Armor School of Fort Knox and at the Norfolk Navy Base. As any other COG, Appalachia COG is made up of three elements: one force with heavy armor or firepower, one larger infantry force, and an air wing.[1]
